Doing a little maintenance, will be back open in a few. Sorry!

PLEASE NOTE: if you have a signup window in progress started before I locked signup, you do NOT have to start over from scratch, but *DO CHECK YOUR SIGNUP VERY CAREFULLY AFTER YOU SUBMIT*; if there are things on there you didn't mean to sign up for, you will need to redo. (This shouldn't happen but I am feeling a little paranoid here. :P)

Title: The Weight Of You In Your Resting State
Medium: TV
Fandom: True Blood
Subject: Eric Northman/Sookie Stackhouse
Warnings: To be safe, spoilers up to 2.12 “Beyond Here Lies Nothin’”. No intentional book spoilers.
Notes: This was sitting on my old laptop since 2.09 aired, but it just didn’t feel quite right. Let us not discuss how many incarnations this has gone through. Anyway, la la la, it’s amazing what a little coffee-driven focus can do… along with pictures involving bowties, yes!

My Issue: The tiny icons for users and communities are showing as the same thing (coffee cups), even though I've attempted to insert the URLs of different images. Is this something that can only be fixed with a Paid account, or have I done something wrong?

After three weeks of working without a single day off, today was the second day of my "weekend", so I indulged in some cooking, lounging, faffing about and picture taking.

Chicken salad (roasted chicken breast, red onion, celery, fennel stem, mayo, sour cream, horseradish-mustard) on whole grain toast with avocado and pancetta. {The Sulu action is directly related to my having come across this photo of crossover HILARITY this morning.)

I am soooo into food these days. You should take some snaps and share, too!

Me and Intern A have had a terrible week, and of course we're working this weekend - someone got fired and our boss sent around an email like, "Volunteer to cover weekend shifts or be volunteered," and this is the only weekend with no plans for either of us between now and the end of the year. Except our plans on Sunday to go see alpacas jump fences. So, working until 6 tomorrow. It is to weep! But we were like, it is okay. We will cheer ourselves up on Friday night by going to our favorite restaurant and eating ALL of the sushi, drinking all the sake mojitos, and having all the ginger and coconut ice cream for dessert.

BUT then I realized I'd forgotten to renew the registration on my car, and when I went to do that they were like, um, you have these unpaid tickets (LONG STORY, OKAY), and in the end it cost me $320 to renew my registration. /o\ /o\ /o\ So instead of going out, we had our favorite homecooked comfort food, which is my baked mac&cheese, mixed veggies, a bottle of wine, and Edy's.

Okay, so. There we are in the kitchen at the little breakfast bar, a couple glasses of wine into the bottle, stuffed, and Intern A is telling me about how she was home the other day and got SO SCARED because the front door opened on its own and she doesn't know, maybe the house is HAUNTED, but her brain immediately thought, "This is like a movie where the heroine goes to close and lock the door and the KILLER is INSIDE THE HOUSE," and AS she's saying this, Sally knocks something over by the front door and Intern A tries to COME OVER THE BREAKFAST BAR to escape from the KILLER IN THE HOUSE.

Internets, okay, a lot of you have met Intern A. Just. Picture her tipsy and trying to come over the table and THEN tell me YOU wouldn't have laughed for the next twenty minutes of your life.

AND I'm not even in the roommate-doghouse because the power of the mac&cheese compels Intern A to be my friend!

...that might change later, though, when she's like, "I didn't scream!" and I'm like, "Heck yeah you did." And also if she figures out that I told everyone about this. Uh, let her tell you the story, you guys. TRUST ME. I WILL GIVE HER THE OPPORTUNITY.

/you had to be there

I did figure out that it's probably not a good idea to sign up for Yuletide while fairly tipsy and giggly, though. Down that road lies Bach/Mozart post-apocolypse fic, you guys. With BABIES.

...actually, that might be sober signups, too. I'm just saying. :D :D :D

Because I epically fail at writing things at the moment (hopefully the whole 'being at uni' thing should wear off soon) but could probably do this if anyone cared...

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any story I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

Sorry guys, miscommunication! The resend feature only works for assignments, once those have been made, not for signups. If you didn't get a signup email, check your spam folders and sign up again if you made a mistake.

If you got your email wrong and can't redo your signup, email us at yuletide @ yuletidetreasure dot org and we'll let you know when it's fixed.

I have been pushing Nick Flynn's Another Bullshit Night in Suck City on everyone I know, and it's your turn.

I stumbled upon Flynn when I picked up a copy of Best American Non-required Reading 2009 (so-so) and it contained a copy of Flynn's essay on Abu Ghraib, torture, photography & memory for Esquire magazine, The Ticking Is the Bomb, which is another must read. ("When asked, I'll sometimes say I'm writing about torture, but I've found that when I say the word torture, many go glassy-eyed, as if I had just dropped a stone into a deep, deep well.").

ABNiSC is a memoir that reads like great fiction (or maybe we just wish it was fiction, that these kinds of life horrors couldn't actually happen, hadn't happened, in fact). It details, mainly, the events that led to Flynn working in a homeless shelter and having the distinct disadvantage of his father walking through the door one night, looking for a bed.

I think it's so good, below the cut you will find mega-sized scanned copies of the first few pages (click on the thumbnails), for you to check out and, inevitably, fall in love with.

Ray tells me that my father lives in a rooming house on Beacon Hill. I take the address, fold it into my pocket, and on the drive back to Boston toss it out the window. Years later Clare will tell me that Jonathan would never mention my brother or me at all, that it seemed to her that we just weren't that important to him. )

See? AMAZING. Now you want the whole book, I know. So go out and get it.

In related news, does anyone have a .mp3 of Rufus Wainwright's Dinner At Eight? I offer the gods this My Morning Jacket cover of Bread's Make It With You (heeeeeeeeeeee.).

  • Be sure to add the "yuletide@yuletidetreasure.org" email address to your contacts for the email you sign up with, and/or "whitelist" it. Check your spam folder to see if it got flagged as spam. Your assignments will be coming from this email, so it's important that you know email from us can get through!

If you still don't find it, write to us, including your signup name and the email you used. We generally ask that you wait 24 hours before writing us.

  • Once assignments have gone out (or shortly before), I'll make a "Dear Yuletide Writer" post in [info]yuletide, where you can provide links to your DYW letters.

  • There will also be a post where you can offer to beta in general or in specific fandoms, for anyone in need of same. As always, if you can't find anyone, you'll be able to write us and I'll see if I can dig up someone from the other folks who offered to write in the same fandom!

Both of these posts will be linked on the sidebars of both communities, so they can be easily found.

  • For new folks, you might want to take a look at After You Get Your Assignment, in the FAQ. This will spell out the commitment you're making, answer some questions you might have when you get your assignment, and explain how you can go about getting more information from your recipient, without revealing your identity.

Post edited to remove my own confusion!

(Things that should never change: Supernatural, Alex Skarsgard*, and delicious ginger molasses cookies yum yum yum!)

So I signed up for Yuletide the other day, and alas, there's two stories that I really really want (Nate/Flynn for Uncharted and Brutus/Antony for Rome) and then I blanked on the third. I mean, there's a lot I would love to read but not nearly as much as the first two. (I picked History Boys just because I really enjoy Dakin and Irwin and it's pretty rare, and also because there's enough good Gen Kill fic out there that I am not in dire need of more per se.)

But while I was considering very seriously (as you do) what fandoms I could write for, I realized that I could totally come up with at least 1000 words of Eric/Godric backstory with the right motivation. Which got me thinking...

Prompt Party! I kind of want to write something but have no idea what, so if anyone has any ideas, I am all up for it! Give me a fandom, pairing/characters you want to see, and any kind of a prompt. I think everyone's saying at least 200 word responses, but it might be more a bit more. Also, I am way more of a fandom slut than I appear to be so you can totally request any fandom that I know/appear to know/should know, and if I can do it, I will. Go wild!

*To clarify: I am totally talking about the lolz-y outfit and not the interview. Oh Alex! I am endeared.

A while back I asked for guest bloggers for jj.com, and managed to get a few entries up before it kind of fell by the wayside.

So let's try that again.

Who'd like to be a guest blogger at my writing blog? I'm looking for one entry a month about any aspect of reading or writing. This can be about fic or published stories, m/m or otherwise, genre or literary, and somewhere in the region of 300-1000 words.

You write your thing and email it to me, I publish it on the scheduled day with a little bio about yourself (100 words or so) and la.
